A young man identified as Adebayo Badmus has been lynched after he was allegedly caught in an act of homosexuality with his male partner, Omoniyi Sheriff Olajide.
The incident happened on July 30, 2026, at the Iyana Ipaja axis of Lagos State.
According to eyewitnesses, the duo of Badmus and Olajide were caught in the act by some residents while engaging in illegal sexual activities.
Our correspondent learnt that the duo are gays engaging in secret affairs. But their hidden act became open on July 30 and they were reportedly attacked by a mob. Badmus reportedly died in a hospital three days after the incident due to the impact of the attack.
“Someone caught them in the act and raised the alarm. People raced to the room to attack them. Olajide was able to escape but his gay partner could not make it. They got hold of him and beat him blue and black.
Badmus was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. He was admitted for three days, but he later died in the hospital. That’s quite shocking,” an eyewitness recounted.
It was further gathered that the local authorities have arrested some of theassailants while also searching for the fleeing Olajide, said to be a self-employed business man in Lagos.
The identities of those arrested could not be independently confirmed as of the time of filing this report.
Nigeria’s laws prohibit same-sex marriage and criminalise all same-sex relationships and activities. Aside from the laws, all Nigerian culture, traditions and religions are against homosexuality.
As a result, such acts may attract mob actions when discovered by some overzealous individuals.
Alleged offenders are subject to the criminal justice process, and members of the public are not authorised to assault or kill persons suspected of committing offences.
The incident has again drawn attention to cases of mob attacks, in which suspects are assaulted or killed by residents before they can be handed over to law enforcement authorities for investigation and prosecution.
