ABEOKUTA – Eminent economist, distinguished academic, and Life President of the prestigious Abeokuta Club, Professor Afolabi Soyode, will be celebrated by family, friends, and associates on Friday, June 26, 2026, as he marks his 85th birthday in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
The milestone celebration will feature the public presentation and launch of his latest book, titled “Abeokuta Club: The Making of a Life President.” The publication chronicles the history, core values, and contributions of the club to the development of Egbaland and Nigeria at large.
According to a statement issued by the organizing committee, the high-profile event is expected to attract an array of eminent Nigerians drawn from the political, traditional, academic, business, and diplomatic sectors.
A Legacy of Distinction
Born on June 26, 1941, in Abeokuta, Professor Soyode has built an illustrious career spanning academia, banking, management consultancy, and public service. Over the decades, his professional engagements have contributed significantly to economic thought, corporate governance, and developmental policy formulation in Nigeria.
Beyond his academic and professional accomplishments, organizers described the elder statesman as an exceptional leader whose life stands as an enduring example of discipline, scholarship, integrity, and patriotism for younger generations.
