•Adesina alleges asphalt wearing off, rain damaging graded sections

By Ifeoluwa Taiwo

The Ogun State Chairman of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), Alhaji Moshood Adesina, has given Senator Salis Shuaib, representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, seven days to disclose details of the contract for the rehabilitation of the Akomoje-Mawuko Road.

Adesina said the demand was prompted by concerns over the pace and quality of work on the road, alleging that a substantial portion of the project remained unfinished despite the passage of time.

The DLA chairman, who spoke to Newsmen on the condition of the road, demanded details of the contract award, including its cost, contractor, scope of work and stipulated completion period.

He also questioned why the project had not been completed if, as he alleged, funds had already been provided for its execution.

According to him, only part of the road had been asphalted, while a long stretch was allegedly left at the grading stage.

Adesina expressed concern that the graded portions were now being exposed to the effects of rainfall, warning that the situation could further damage the road before the rehabilitation was completed.

He further alleged that portions of the road that had already been asphalted were beginning to wear off.

The development, he said, raised questions about the quality of materials and workmanship used on the project.

Adesina said residents and road users in the affected communities deserved explanations concerning the status of the rehabilitation and the resources committed to it.

He therefore challenged Senator Shuaib to publish the relevant contract details so that members of the public could independently understand what was approved and what the contractor was expected to deliver.

The DLA chairman said such disclosure should cover the contract sum, date of award, name of the contractor, project specifications and agreed completion timeline.

He argued that public infrastructure projects should be subjected to transparency and accountability, particularly where public funds were involved.

Adesina said the DLA was not questioning the need to rehabilitate the road but was concerned about what he described as the apparent gap between the project and its expected delivery.

He said leaving a significant portion of the road merely graded during the rainy season could worsen the condition of the route and potentially undermine work already carried out.

The party chairman urged Senator Shuaib to explain why the road remained incomplete and what measures were being taken to ensure that the project was delivered to the required standard.

He said the seven-day deadline was intended to give the senator an opportunity to provide the requested information and address the concerns raised by the party.

Adesina, however, warned that failure to make the contract details available within the seven-day period could lead the DLA to seek legal redress.

He said the proposed legal action would be aimed at obtaining clarity on the contract and ensuring accountability in the execution of the road project.

The DLA chairman also called for urgent intervention on the affected sections before further rainfall causes additional damage to the road.

He maintained that residents of Akomoje, Mawuko and adjoining communities were entitled to a properly executed and durable road that would provide lasting relief rather than a partially completed project.

Efforts to obtain Senator Shuaib’s reaction to the allegations and the seven-day ultimatum were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
