…Candidate promises inclusive governance as party members rally support at Abeokuta affirmation ceremony
The Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Ogun State on Thursday formally affirmed Mr. Shokunbi Olanrewaju as its governorship candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial election.
The affirmation ceremony was held at the party’s state secretariat located in Ake, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, amid a gathering of party leaders, stakeholders, delegates, youth groups, women leaders and supporters from across the state.
The event which was also witnessed by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials, marked a significant milestone in the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections as members unanimously endorsed Olanrewaju to fly the party’s flag in the governorship contest.
Party faithful arrived at the venue early in the day, creating an atmosphere of excitement and anticipation as proceedings commenced with opening remarks by key officials of the party.
Addressing members during the event, party leaders described Olanrewaju as a committed and experienced politician whose vision aligns with the aspirations of the people of Ogun State.
They noted that the decision to affirm him as the party’s candidate was reached after extensive consultations with stakeholders across the three senatorial districts of the state.
According to the party leadership, the affirmation reflects the confidence reposed in Olanrewaju’s ability to lead the party into the 2027 election and provide credible leadership for the state.
The leaders stressed that the ADP remains committed to internal democracy, transparency and inclusiveness in all its activities and decision-making processes.
Speaking shortly after his affirmation, Olanrewaju expressed gratitude to party members for the trust and confidence they had placed in him.
He described the endorsement as both an honour and a call to greater service, assuring members that he would justify their confidence through hard work, dedication and commitment to the party’s ideals.
Olanrewaju pledged to run an issue-based campaign focused on addressing the socio-economic challenges facing Ogun State and improving the welfare of residents.
He said his vision for the state centres on economic growth, youth empowerment, quality education, improved healthcare services, infrastructure development and enhanced security.
The governorship hopeful emphasized the need for inclusive governance, promising to carry all sections of the state along in the pursuit of sustainable development.
He also called on party members to remain united and focused, noting that unity would be critical to the party’s success in the forthcoming elections.
According to him, the task ahead requires collective effort, sacrifice and determination from every member and supporter of the party.
Speaking earlier, the Ogun State Chairman of ADP, Yeye Olufunke Olarenwaju expressed optimism that the ADP would emerge as a formidable force in the 2027 governorship race.
She urged members at the grassroots level to intensify mobilization efforts and engage with communities across the state in order to expand the party’s support base.
Youth leaders at the gathering also pledged their support for Olanrewaju’s candidacy, assuring him of active participation in voter education, mobilization and campaign activities.
Similarly, women leaders within the party commended the peaceful conduct of the affirmation exercise and promised to work tirelessly towards ensuring victory for the party.
The event featured goodwill messages, prayers for the success of the candidate and the party, as well as a reaffirmation of members’ commitment to the growth of the ADP in Ogun State.
