The Nigerian Police Force has confirmed that it has launched an investigation into a same-sex incident involving one Elizabeth Oluwatumise Emmanuel and Osunleti Glory Celina Atinuke in Lagos State.
This was made known when the management of Nairda Nigeria Limited , paid a courtesy visit to the Spokesperson of Lagos command of Nigeria Police, SP Abimbola Adebisi in his office.
It could be recalled that Elizabeth Oluwatumise Emmanuel and her partner Osunleti Glory Celina Atinuke was reportedly caught engaging in the act on June 10, 2024, in Lagos State.
Sources indicate that Elizabeth Oluwatumise Emmanuel was caught while engaging in the same act with another lady, Osunleti Glory Celina Atinuke at a ladies’ changing room belonging to a popular company, Nairda Limited.
It was gathered that the duo while in the ladies dressing room of the company began a romantic encounter.
A coworker at the company caught the duo right in the act which is an act deemed unacceptable by both local customs and criminal law.
During the altercation, the management of the company called police on them
It was gathered that while the scuffle was ongoing, Elizabeth Oluwatumise Emmanuel and her partner cunningly escaped from the back door of the ladies dressing room while awaiting police arrival.
Police have since launched a manhunt for her as her partner, Glory Celina also escaped.
But while receiving the management team of Nairda in his office, Adebisi said the command has not abandon the case warning that the police will do all what it can to get the culprits arrested.
Her words, ” We have already declared Elizabeth Oluwatumise Emmanuel and Osunleti Glory Celina Atinuke wanted and we will ensure that they are arrested and prosecuted for their crimes whenever we get them.
She assured that Police will not tolerate any kind of crime warning those who still indulge in the immoral act to desist.
She noted that same-sex relationships remain prohibited under Nigeria’s Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act, 2013, which prescribes penalties for violations upon conviction.
She appealed to members of the public with useful information to assist security agencies in their investigation.
Speaking earlier, the Head Human Resources Director of Nairda Limited, Mr Ogunlesi Abiodun said the incident nearly affected the organization negatively as many of their clients believed that the organization is promoting same sex act.
He said the development reportedly caused confusion within the company premises, with management officials said to have intervened immediately after the discovery.
He narrated that when the unfortunate incident happened, they had to contact the police following the incident in an attempt to prevent the situation from escalating.
“Unfortunately before law enforcement officers could arrived at the premises, the two women allegedly fled through another exit within the facility.
Meanwhile, rights advocates have repeatedly called for caution in handling allegations involving private citizens, stressing the importance of respecting due process and avoiding public harassment.
